I had the best day yesterday! I got to play with my little Bento Buddy ( my grandson) for most of the day. We had a great time raking leaves, reading stories, swinging, and playing with cars, rocks, and dirt! All that hard playing really works up an appetite for a 1 year old! I was prepared with this easy to make turkey bento in my LunchBots Trio .
The foundation of the turkey is a peanut butter sandwich. On top of that, I added some red apple, green apple, and carrot pieces. The secret to getting the fan-tail shape I wanted was to cut each piece with a pointed tip, as shown in the photo:
Next I added a little slice of a banana muffin for the turkey's head and neck:
The facial features were super easy to make from candy eyes, cheese, and a pomegranate seed, which stuck on quite nicely, because the muffin was really moist. If you want to make one and your surface isn't as moist, you can dab on a bit of peanut butter or honey with a toothpick - works great!
The rest of this bento was filled with corn, raspberries, and turkey and cheese on some cute turkey and pumpkin shaped picks. Bento Buddy loved all of it! Normally he crams his food - he stuffs his mouth as full as he can get it! - but this time he looked at the different pieces of his lunch and ate them one section at a time. He actually slowed down long enough for me to get a few photos:
That sweet face just melts my heart every time! That happy smile is the real reason why I do what I do here - my family's health and happiness make the extra effort worth every minute!
