Why You Should Make This Gluten-free Pecan Pie Recipe
- It's so easy! Once you've made your pie crust, the pecan pie filling can be quickly made with 4 simple steps.
- Its crunchy, nutty flavor and fudgy chocolate make it the perfect pie to place on the holiday dessert table. It will be a nice alternative to fruit pies and cream pies.
- It can easily be frozen and served again - even months later. Imagine what a welcome surprise it would be when you have gluten free guests!
Ingredient List
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips- Even if you’re a milk chocolate fan, promise me you'll stick to semi-sweet chocolate chips for this pie. With all the sweetness from sugar and corn syrup, semi-sweet chocolate is the best way to balance the flavors.
- Butter - real butter is my top choice, but if you need it to be dairy free, you can use Earth Balance non-dairy butter.
- Sugar - regular white sugar is what I use for this pie instead of brown sugar, which I find to be too heavy for this pie.
- Eggs - I use large eggs for this recipe.
- Light corn syrup - this might be the only recipe I use corn syrup for these days. It's pretty much the devil, but since I make this pie only once a year I decided to stay with corn syrup. If I ever find a healthier sub I will update this recipe.
- Vanilla extract
- Chopped pecans - unsalted whole pecans are what I use in this recipe. Chop them coarsely to add texture to this delicious dessert.
- Gluten free pie shell - You can use any pie crust, but homemade pie crust is by far the best. You will need to make ½ recipe of my prized gluten free pie crust recipe in order to make it gluten free. Don’t worry, it’s not hard! Once you make a batch of pie dough, this recipe comes together in just a few easy steps. Be sure and read the recipe card for the full details.
Step 1. Make gluten free pie crust. You will need a single pie shell (make another pie out of the other half of the dough). Press it into a pie pan and chill in the fridge while you mix up the filling.
Step 2. In a medium bowl, beat eggs, sugar, corn syrup, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Step 3. Add melted butter and mix well. Now is a good time to preheat the oven to 350℉.
Step 4. Fold in the pecans and chocolate chips. It’s easier with a spoon.
Step 5. Pour the filling into the pie shell. Bake at 350℉ for 50 minutes, or until a crust forms on top and the filling feels “set” but still a little jiggly. If you know what brownies feel like when they’re done - it’s like that.
Step 6. When the pie is finished baking, remove from the oven and let cool completely to room temperature.
Tips: 👇
If the crust begins to brown too fast, move the pie to a lower rack, which will help the bottom of the crust turn brown and crisp. Or just reduce the temperature to 330℉.
This pie is at its best if you wait to eat it until it is completely cool. Or you can cover it with plastic wrap or aluminum foil and keep it in the fridge overnight or until you need to serve it. The flavor improves the next day.
Gluten free chocolate chip pecan pie is at its best when topped with a dollop of fresh whipped cream. We love it sprinkled with some maple sugar (perfection!) or a few mini chocolate chips.

Make a gluten free pie with a twist - everything’s better with chocolate, and this is no exception. Rich, chocolate flavor with crunchy pecans in a buttery gluten-free pie crust. Pecan pie and chocolate chip cookies come together to make one of the most delicious desserts you’ve ever had!
- Total Time: 1 hour 50 minutes
- Yield: 8 slices 1x
Ingredients
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup white sugar
- 1 cup light corn syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup butter, melted
- 1 cup unsalted pecans, chopped
- 1 unbaked gluten free pie crust
Instructions
- Make a batch of my gluten free pie crust. You need ½ recipe of the crust to make this pie. Roll it out and press it into a pie pan, and keep it in the fridge while you prepare the filling.
- In a medium sized bowl beat the eggs, sugar, corn syrup, and vanilla.
- Add melted butter and mix well. At this point it would be good to preheat the oven to 350℉
- Stir in the pecans and chocolate chips. This is most easily done with a spoon instead of a mixer.
- Pour into the pie shell. Bake at 350℉ for 50 minutes, or until set. You want it to have a crust on top (like a brownie) but still feel that it’s soft underneath, like a chocolate chip cookie.
- If you see that the crust is getting too brown and the filling is still not set, you can cover the edges of the crust with strips of foil, or move the pie to a lower rack (which will help the bottom crust to get nice and crisp).
- Remove from the oven and cool completely before cutting and serving. Or refrigerate the pie and serve it the next day - the flavors will be even more developed that way.
