Today was the first chance I got to use my new Lunchbots containers that I bought recently from Zulily, and I have to say, I really like them a lot! I like them so much that I bought another box, the Bento Uno, which should be big enough for a full lunch ( and should be coming in the mail next week!). The one in the picture is the Trio, which is pretty small for my husband or my 2 boys. It works perfectly to go alongside this lunch, which features some hot soup in a Thermal.
I made this lunch for my youngest son, and even though he does school at home ( so he wouldn't need a thermos for his soup) we were both interested in trying out the Thermal. His soup stayed hot for 3 hours, which was just right for him. Next time, I'll pack these Lunchbots for my other son to take to work, and we'll see how that goes.
In this lunch are some honeydew melon balls mixed with grapes, and on the other side are some orange and yellow carrots cut with a fall leaf cutter. There's also a chunk of cucumber that I cut with a checkerboard pattern, ( you can find a tutorial for that on my Tutorial page under the title "checkerboard apples") I then sliced almost all the way through the cucumber to make it easy for my son to break off the slices and dip them into his ranch dip. In the long top section I put a homemade granola bar and some ranch dip for his veggies. I really like that long, narrow section of the Trio - I can see me using it for string cheese, celery, food on skewers... yup, I'm going to have some fun with this one!
In the Thermal I packed some steamy chicken and wild rice soup - yum! It had some big chunks of carrot and chicken all swirled around with wild rice in a delicious broth. Now, don't go asking for my recipe because I don't even have it - this is just a can of Progresso soup, ha ha! But it really was good ( I had the same thing for my lunch).
I love the colors in this lunch - the bright yellow and orange leaves, and the contrast of the honeydew with the dark purple grapes. It seems to go along with the beautiful colors I'm seeing outside these days - orange, yellow, red, green, with a sparkling bright blue sky. I love fall!
